EN 14015

Overview

EN 14015 is the European standard for the design and construction of above-ground, flat-bottom, welded steel tanks used for storing liquids at ambient temperatures. It is widely considered the European equivalent of API 650.

Region: Europe

Tank Type: Vertical, flat-bottom

Pressure: Up to 500 mbar (7.25 psi)

Construction: Field-erected

Key Features

  • European equivalent to API 650
  • Designed for atmospheric and low-pressure storage
  • Applicable for large-diameter storage tanks
  • Supports various roof configurations
  • Focus on structural integrity and safety

Design Parameters

  • Tank diameter range: 1 m to 60 m
  • Operating pressure: up to 500 mbar
  • Vacuum design: up to −5 mbar for fixed roof tanks
  • Ambient temperature liquid storage
  • Wind load design per Eurocode EN 1991-1-4
  • Seismic design per EN 1998-4

Structural Considerations

  • Shell thickness design based on hydrostatic pressure
  • Roof design (fixed cone, dome)
  • Bottom plate requirements
  • Wind girder and stiffening rings

Installation & Tolerances

  • Settlement monitoring requirements
  • Out-of-plumb tolerance control
  • Foundation and base preparation
  • Field erection procedures

Applications

  • Petroleum and petrochemical storage
  • Water and chemical storage
  • Industrial liquid storage systems
  • Tank farms and terminals
